Venerex, Sun Hung Kai back Bother

A grocery delivery start-up that simplifies shopping by offering a next-day delivery service for household items that do not require refrigeration, has raised GBP 4.4mn in pre-series A funding. Bother uses AI to pre-empt the quantities a consumer needs and how frequently they need it. The items are then delivered for free the next day—no substitutions and no need to book a delivery slot.

Investors were Sung Hung Kai & Co. and Venrex Investment Management – investment firms that have backed the likes of Uber, Just Eat and Not on the High Street.

Bother was founded by Douglas Morton to solve what are, in his view, the inefficiencies of traditional grocery shopping. The service enables shoppers to purchase bulky items online so they can, for example, shop locally and support local retailers.
